Ankle Pain

What is Ankle Pain?

Ankle pain refers to discomfort or dysfunction in the ankle joint or surrounding soft tissues. It commonly results from sprains, overuse injuries, tendon irritation, or biomechanical issues.

Characteristics / Clinical Presentation 

• Pain with walking, running, or weight-bearing
• Swelling, stiffness, or bruising
• Limited mobility
• Instability or repeated rolling
• Difficulty with sport-specific movements

Clinical Diagnosis

A Physiotherapist will assess joint mobility, muscle strength, balance, gait mechanics, and functional movements. Imaging may be recommended for suspected structural injury.

Treatment


• Manual therapy
• Strengthening and stability exercises
• Balance and proprioception training
• Load management and footwear education
• Return-to-sport exercise programming
