Coach, Speaker, Teacher of Compassion introduces us to self compassion :
Self-Compassion – yes but how?
Do you sometimes feel like you’re beating yourself up to get through the day?
Or that the inner voice that tells you that you’re hopeless is not really your best friend at all?
Or perhaps you get really irritated by yourself (and others) not meeting your standards.
Everyone tells you to be nicer to yourself. But that’s easier said than done!
76% of the adult population find it easier to be compassionate to others than themselves. And there are lots of reasons for this.
We have lots of misconceptions about self-compassion: that it’s weak, letting yourself off the hook, or self-indulgent, for example. We’re also a bit confused about what self-compassion is. Does it mean not doing things that are hard? Will you lose your motivation if you’re being kind to yourself? Will you lose your moral compass?
You may secretly feel like you don’t deserve compassion. You might be telling yourself that you need to be a perfect human first, and that means waiting a long time!
When we suspect that self-compassion might be bad idea, we end up resisting it.
Whatever the reasons, chances are that you’re aware that you’re a bit hard on yourself, but you’ve never understood how to change
that. And you worry that being so hard on yourself is having a negative impact, but without a good alternative, you just keep going,
criticising yourself and feeling beaten down inside.
This is why the self-compassion training exists.
It teaches you that self-compassion is a skillset, not just “being kind to yourself”. And that this skillset will actually help you to be more courageous and motivated, not less.
Self-compassion teaches you how to deal with difficult emotions, how to support yourself through difficult situation, and helps you
transform that inner voice into something more useful.
